Are We Being Real?

Lately I’ve been thinking about the circle of bloggers that I frequent. I wonder whether I’ve given them, and any other cherished silent follower, an accurate representation of who I am?
Some blogs tell you all about their family, their day, their trials and successes. While my blog does give an overview of me and my family it’s more about a conversation. I’m interested in your opinions to things that interest or puzzle me.
So I’ve been asking long time friends whether they think TVs Take is an accurate representation of TV and the answer is yes. Phew. They know me to be direct, thoughtful and fun loving – I think that sums this blog up.
I often wonder whether the blogs I’m reading are a real representation of their lives. I’d like to believe most of the characters are real and not some highly inaccurate personal ad.
Question time, do you think your blog is an accurate representation of you?

  1. Yes, I do believe my blog is an accurate, albeit narrow, representation of who I am. Unless I write a book, there's only so much I can tell the world. So I have to pick and choose, and hope that someone finds it somewhat interesting.

By the way, I plan on posting an entry about my sister's screwed up world view and how she got that way.

  2. My blog is an EXTREMLY accurate representation of myself. Sometimes I feel, I share TOO MUCH, and some readers might get offended. But in the end, it is me, and like or not, I will still blog about it! :) This is good insight though, thank you for making me ponder. ::Kristin::

  3. I think my blog is an accurate representation. I write how I think and post about things that I actually do. Sometimes I wish I sounded or looked more awesome than I do but alas... :)

  4. Absolutely my blog is who I am. The good, the bad, the ugly...it's all there.

    It's a great question...but surely begs another...

Do you think that folks whose blogs are not accurate (i.e. a self serving promotional ad) will admit to it??

  5. I do think it's accurate. I am opinionated, but I also have compassion. I have dreams that are late in life getting started, but they are started. I am learning more about myself and that's in my blog too. I have another blog just for my family, which includes my parents and siblings. It is rather tame compared to this one. On this blog, I get to say what I think. I am now following you.

  6. I think my blog is an accurate repesentation of me and my family. I feel like I share as much as I can about myself, I am a pretty straight forward, easy going person and I think my blog shows that. Obviously I don't share everything about my life because I feel like some things should stay private.

  7. Well, not a completely accurate representation, because I don't share every detail of my life...but for what I do share, yes, it's me.
And I am now following you back, your blog is like a good book, I couldn't stop reading!!Looking forward to more great posts.

  8. My blog is totally a representation of ME and our family! The crazy moments, the fun moments and the moments where I feel like I'm losing my mind..it's all there! I remember before I started my own blog and I read others, I used to question the "realness" of the mothers and their families. I hated to think they might be "acting" when it came to their lives, but I was tired of reading about how "perfect" their lives seemed. I told myself I'd be real and put it all out there, so that's what I did and still do to this day...I just hope my followers respond and like McClellen Memories, because like it or not, it's OURS!

  11. Yes! My blog is who I am. I write everything I feel, everything I wanna say. In fact I can be more honest with my feelings when I write them rather than talk about it.

  12. Nice blog. I think mine represents who I am, as well as my opinion on different things.

New follower, thanks to Follow Me Back Tuesday.

  13. Very, very good point you bring up! I have to be honest and it looks like I am one of the fewer who will have to say 'yes' and 'no'. What I post is 100% real and true to who I am, what I think, how I feel. There are things that I do not post though. Example: the post in which I touched upon the friend who never contacted me during or after my pregnancy with Ryder: she is the wife of a very, very good friend of my husband. (I don't think she will find my comment here, hence me mentioning it.) Any frustrations I have my husband (other than the coffee cup), I am hesitant to put on my blog as well. He occasionally reads it and I don't feel it is fair for me to post my frustrations to the world if I haven't had a chance to talk to him about it. Once we've talked it is no longer a frustration and thus no longer in my frontal lobe to be blogging about.

So, there you have it. I guess for the main part, yes, my blog is a fair representation of myself.

  15. Great topic! I really hope that my blog is an accurate representation of me... although as it is based in reviews and giveaways, I really only can squeeze in personal information in a paragraph here and there, but I try to!

I feel a little... bad for the bloggers who write things that are inaccurate, you know? No one is perfect, so the fact that they feel like they need to put on this facade for the internet? That just seems sad.

  16. I'm with HRH. I am really who I say I am, I write the way I write, and choose to tell stories and share experiences that I want to remember. But, I filter. I'm not going to write about things that could cause harm to my spouse or friends, or bitch and moan excessively on my blog, even though I do sometimes do that in my head. And, just because I don't write about my down days, or rough patches, doesn't mean that I don't have them, or that I'm not being real...I'm just keeping those things happenings private.

  17. I'll admit I got confused between blogging about my family vs. about business. I always wanted to blog about both, but heard differing views/advice, like you should keep family and business stuff separate. Well I struggled to find a voice that fits both because I love both, how can I not talk about them? I'm still on that journey...learning to filter things out and doing my best to write just being me. This is an EXCELLENT topic!

  18. Nope, no I don't. Not at all. Because I can only share so much, just little snippets of who I am, what my life is like. I don't think anyone can get a real sense of who I am through my blog, but I think that what I do share is an honest portrayal of one of my many facets. Does that make sense?

  19. Thanks for your comment on our beach trip story. Oh my goodness, 115!!!! It was 108 here yesterday, HOT HOT HOT!!!! Can't imagine how you get through 115!! Lots of indoor activities I'd imagine. How far are you from the beach?

  20. My blog is me. It is made up of my daily thoughts, questions and feelings. I love writing, because it is something I can share with my daughter as she gets older. So I want it to be as accurate as can be! The puddle my daughter was jumping in was something waited for a long time. It has been 100 here for a while and very humid and no rain! So when it rained it poured and I was so excited Little Chick could go and have some fun!

  21. Hey TV, it is me again! I am asking a few of my super blog friends to go and show some blog love to one of my blog buddies I met a couple of months ago when I started blogging! She went through a really tough time and just started posting again. It would be so nice if we could show her some support. Her URL is http://lovecommaashlee.blogspot.com/
    Have a great night!

  22. Thank you TV! I think it is such a great community of women and we should really give one another a blog boost when needed! I guess that would be part of my blog philosophy and it kind of goes into being "real". And more so, I really don't want anyone to be sad and sending a smile and support to someone is such a great thing to do! Thank you!

  24. What a great topic to write about! My hubs and I were talking about this the other day. I use him as a filter before I publish any posts since I'm still fairly new to this blogging world and don't want all of our personal info out there... but for the most part, my blog is a true representation of our lives. It's not perfect, but we are in general happy and very blessed.

  25. I'm a little behind in my reading this week so I'm catching up on your posts!

Yes, I feel like my blog represents me honestly. I love to craft, i love to plan parties, I love sharing my creativity with others, I'm always a little sarcastic, and I love putting together tutorials to share. I guess that all comes from my training background when I was in in Corporate America.

I love reading your posts they get me thinking! I might borrow some topics and this one I think is a great topic! If I do I will link it back to you. ;) Have a great weekend!

  26. I think mine is...even though I spend a lot of time on reviews and giveaways. I've been entering giveaways as a hobby for nearly 10 years :)

  27. I try to make Family Fountain a reflection of who I am. At first I was going to write about just family, but many other interests have found there way here, too.

I think your blog is a very good one, the only one of its kind I know of.
