Living For Today Or Tomorrow?

Some people live in the moment while others plan and live for tomorrow. I’m somewhere in the middle. I enjoy moments of spontaneity yet feel the need to eliminate unpleasant surprises so I also plan for tomorrow.

There is no doubt most of us take our situations for granted. It’s on those rare heartfelt occasions such as a death, illness or birth that we sit back and really breathe in all that we have been given. To think if we all sat back at least once a day (or once a week like Mama Hen) and soaked in all that made us happy – just think how our mindsets would change.

Living between today and tomorrow is a good place for me; it gives me perspective and freedom.

How about you, do you live for today or tomorrow?

  1. I live for today, but with tomorrow in mind. I just wrote about that yesterday - (Soul Enriching post and the Saturday - Energize post) where I need to slow down the chatter in my head and take stock of life. For me - I have to actually schedule it out. My "go with the flow" attitude tends to have me floating through the days. I want to savor. Does that make sense??

  2. I used to be ALL about my tomorrows and it would even consume me. I'd plan my vacations a year in advance Christmas shop in August...etc. I loved looking off to things to come but, God has since taught me how to savor my todays a lot more and that is such a blessing. In face since having a child I've found that I really can only handle to live in my todays...my little gal takes up all the time that I have! haha

  3. Love Mama Hen's posts too :) Yes, I think as I've grown older, I live more for the present and not the future. I used to PLAN everything out, but now I know that life is so precious and we must soak it all in each and every day, if possible. We were just talking about this, because I attending a funeral for my friends' grandmother, who lived a simple life as my grandmother did, but they were SO rich in life, lived each moment and took NOTHING for granted...I want to live like that forever!

  4. I absolutely live in the moment, but to be quite honest, I am a bit OCD in regard to "planning." So I guess that means that I live for tomorrow, too! I think that planning "today" can make your "tomorrow" even better! LOL

  5. I try to live in the moment as much as I can, but I also think that it is important to plan for the future also. I work hard to find a balance between the two because I tend to be more in the moment then the future. I hope you have had a great weekend, we are still on vacation so I haven't been good about visiting, hope all is well!

  6. For the most part, I live for today and doing my best to plan for tomorrow. I was not a planner before kids. I used to have fun doing things spontaneously and am now learning to plan doing fun things with my kids :)

  7. I'm a planner, I'm always thinking about tomorrow, but I don't think that means that I'm not enjoying today, or appreciating all of my blessings today! You are right, it isn't until we experience heart ache or tragedy until we really revisit exactly how precious and special each day is.

**I'm so behind on blogging. To answer your question, I shoot with the Canon Rebel T1i. It's a great "starter" DSLR camera for a novice. It can do most of what the pro cameras can do, but it is easy to use and learn and has a lot of automatic settings too which help as you start to learn, comes with a somewhat reasonable price tag too. I'd recommend it!

  8. Since we have no retirement planning to speak of, I think we're living for today. I have trouble thinking of the distant future as a real thing that's actually going to happen. Probably some defect in my wiring!

  9. Hey TV thank you for putting me in your great post! I think I am in the middle at times also. I want to have security and plan for our future. But I do try my best to live in the moment as much as I can! I waited so long to be a mom and I don't want to miss a moment! Have a great night!

  10. I think I live in 24 hour periods, so sometimes today & tomorrow overlap. Ha! I am definitely more of a live-in-the-moment girl, sometimes to my detriment! On another note, I will make those YouTube videos if you agree to be in them with me! :)

  11. I'm a big time planner. I already have vacations planned for next year :) But on a daily basis I try to live for today, too. I thank my daughter for reminding me of that each day! Your little doll is growing so nicely! I love the pictures on your sidebar. The cookbook shot is adorable.
