Bring on the Holidays, Baby!

With KLV old enough to understand the holidays this year, I’ve noticed a behavior in me that I found completely annoying several years ago. The behavior: Decorations and holiday music ready to go 4+ weeks before the said holiday. I even included some holiday songs on my blog playlist, did you hear them?

Yes, yes, some of you may be rolling your eyes and that’s fine; I get it. Others may completely understand the transformation.

Watching KLV get excited about pumpkins, lights and various decorations (or ‘congratulations’ as she calls them) puts a real twinkle in my eye and a smile on my heart.

So, am I the only geeky holiday lovin' Mom on the bloggy block?

  1. Yesterday it was almost 70 degrees here so I put the wreathes on the front windows breaking my own cardinal rule: no Christmas decorations before Black Friday.

But when my kid got off the bus and saw those wreathes, she jumped up and down and squealed with joy. That's my favorite moment of the past two weeks. So when you have an excited little kid, you can't help but rush this stuff a little.

I'm still making her wait until Friday for the tree!

  2. I totally get it! It's just so much fun to see their eyes light up, and truthfully, this has always been my favorite time of the year, even before kids. We've been playing the Shrek Xmas tunes in the car for two weeks now...somehow it doesn't get old. Tis the Season!

BTW, KLV is breath-takingly adorable! How are you liking your new camera? I'm sure you'll get some great Xmas photos this year with it.

  3. As a person who rolls her eyes often (lol) - No - I think what you are doing is awesome. I am waaay blessed to have a family that made holidays really special and went all out! In turn, I do the same. It always bothers me when others do not get into the spirit. However, I don't know about you - but I find that I "Christmas myself Out" about week 2 of December, but then some how I find the spark on Christmas Eve!!

  5. I am seriously itching to put up my tree. The only reason I haven't decorated yet is because of the move. I have never been excited about decorating before this year but knowing the joy Grace will get from it means everything!

  6. Oh my gosh I've always been the stickler for don't do anything Christmas until after Thanksgiving but, now with a child it is absolutely impossible to refrain. I've been playing music all week, shopping for presents, starting to decorate and am absolutely giddy as all get up!! I'm having SO much fun being a kid with my kid:) You are so not a geek! You are an awesome mommy:)

  7. This is the first year that Georgia halfway gets what's going on, so I can definitely understand your excitement (and KLV's!). We're in the same boat. I was always a die-hard "No Christmas music before Thanksgiving" kind of girl, but this year, we've already broken out the Santa songs, the wreath, and we're getting our tree this weekend. Enjoy the longer holiday season - I know we are!

  9. You are so not the only one! As soon as Myles had an understanding of the holidays, I started to do the same thing! I even decorate for Halloween now which I never did! There really is something special about seeing the excitement in your child's eye over the holidays, it breaths a whole new life into them!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  10. I'm a holiday lovin' mama too! I've got my holiday CD ready to go (usually I start on Dec. 1st), and this year I've bought a whole bunch of Christmas books (second hand). One mom shared with me that she has a Christmas tradition of reading a special Christmas book to her kids every night. I'm ready to get in the spirit...Actually, who am I kidding? I've got the spirit right now!

  11. TV the holidays only come around once a year, so if you are playing holiday music early then why not my friend! It is all what you make of it! Sorry if I have not been able to comment as much lately my friend. I am going through so much right now and I am trying to care of everyone and everything. This is when we really know we are adults! The endless responsibility, worry and stress. I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving! Just so you know, Little Chick have been singing Christmas carols and reading Cristmas books for the past two weeks and we love it! Have a great day!

  12. Ugh! Typos again! Well, I think you know that the sentence above was supposed to say Little Chick and I have been singing and oh boy, look how I spelled Christmas. Have a good day TV!

  13. I totally agree that it is more fun to decorate for the holidays with the little ones around to observe the "congratulations". Ha! If you want all of it up earlier than the rest, so be it! Decorate your heart out! :)

BTW, your comment about the sloth skeleton cracked me up! That would've definitely had me flip-flopping and tambourine-banging!

  15. No, not at all! I didnt really love it until I had kids of my own!

You might be interested in The House Fairy (Santa's sister). We've been with her since she first started and we LOVE her! She keeps the kids "on track" all year long and then as it gets closer to Christmas, I start playing all the Santa & Xmas videos for the kids. All my children's friends & cousins are super jealous cuz it is that cool!!! It gives this holiday that extra somethin'!

    Check her out... http://www.housefairy.org/

  18. Holidays take on a whole new meaning when there are children there to celebrate with. It is almost as if children come around just magic starts to fade a little bit. I love the holidays, always have - but I love them even more with Squishy in our lives.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!
