Being Present

One of the nicest gifts we can give to each other is being present.
I can be so guilty of wandering off, mentally.  I dislike this quality in other people and yet I do the same thing.  Ugh!

In an effort to curb this downbeat quality, throughout the day I remind myself, “BE PRESENT – this moment will never happen again!”

It’s hard and weighty to keep reminding myself of the span of life’s moments.

Being present w/ KLV
Regardless of what’s going on, I need to do a much better job of being present.  Because at the end of a day and a lifetime that’s one of the greatest gifts I can give.

Are you good at being present?

Also Congrats to The Yankee Texan for winning the Aloha for Carol Ann giveaway!

  1. Excellent topic! I often struggle with the same thing. I like to think I'm getting better at it, but I still need work! :)

  3. No, I'm not. I've never thought of it in these such terms, but you're right, I should be. Thanks for enlightenment and making me more aware. I'm sure my family will appreciate it if I try harder at this! I'm going to add it to my list of goals to make my life (as well as those around me) better. Have a good Saturday! : )

  4. TV you are speaking my language, lol. I struggle with being present and I want to get better at it too. What a nice thing to realize so we can give this great gift more often!

  5. This has been on my mind a lot lately and I have been trying to slow down each day and be present kore with my boys instead of worrying about my to do list. I love the picture...so freaking cute. Have a good weekend!

  6. You are so right. I find that I'm always thinking about work, about finances, about future plans...it drives me crazy when my mind starts drifting instead of being present for my husband or Little Lewie. I used to wear a bracelet for this very purpose. Everytime I saw the bracelet, it'd be a reminder for me to go back to being in the present. (I did this years ago.) I might need to take it out again.

  7. No...I am horrible at being present. I'm constantly multi-tasking. I blame blackberries for the growth in this phenomenon.

  8. I think we all struggle with this. It is funny how we can keep reminding ourselves and yet time keeps slipping away. Have a great night my friend. It is so funny because I did a post like this months ago and you and I are always on the same page. Great minds think alike! :) Have a super Sunday my "great minded" friend!

  9. Thx for the follow! New follower to your blog! Your lil one is too adorable. Present? Is possible to be too much? I don't even know where to start except I need more sleep. ha! Those who know me know I go, go & never stop. I do my stuff into the wee hrs every nite. This is the only time I have for me. I have thought many times to take our 3 girls out of charter school & home school them. Time passes too quick these days. I know I'll never have the time to do so, but I love to imagine. Perhaps one day...

  10. Yeah, so glad to be back and visiting your blog again;0. What a darling picture of your sweet little blue eyed girl! I think one of the reasons I named my blog one day at a time is because God has been teaching me ever so faithfully over the past few years to be present and it has been very useful now that I have a child. Even with her party yesterday I spread out the decorating/shopping/baking over two weeks simply because I didn't want to procrastinate and then not be able to enjoy my daughter on her actual birthday or the days leading up to it. IT is a daily choice to refocus my mind and stay in the present. It isn't easy as you have pointed out but, SO worth it!! Happy SUnday TV!

  11. There are definitely times where I have a hard time being present. Life gets so crazy sometimes and I feel like I am always looking forward instead of in the present. It has been my goal to be more present in the moment too. Not always easy but life really is so much better when lived that way! I hope all is well for you.

  12. I'm getting way better at being present, but I still have a long way to go. Usually it helps me to turn my phone off. Such a small piece of machinery makes such a big distraction, and being unreachable for a little while helps me to stay in the moment.

  14. Sometimes! Sometimes, no...a big no. Thanks for the reminder! You always encourage me and I thank you for that. :)

  15. That picture of KLV is so cute! I know what happened the other day when I could not get to your blog. When I click on your blog from anotyher person's blog in the comments I can not get through. Whenever I see it I usually click to check a new post and I can;t get through which I am sure others can't either. I just broke out my Dave Mathews CDs and Little Chick is loving them. My cool daughter! :) I thought about you and wondered why Dave is not in the mix. It is funny how our great bloggy friends becoame a part of our every day lives. I also think about you when I hear David Gray. You reminded me to get those out from the pile of CDs. By the way - I love The Cure! Another great one my friend. It takes me back to my "cool" years! Ha! :) Have a good night!

  16. I do not know why I just can't check my comment before pressing post comment. I always make so many typos! Oh brother!

  17. I'm not totally present for much of the day so I make sure that Julia has my full attention for a specific portion of the day. I want us to spend that quality time together every day, even if it is only 30 minutes some days. Great post!

  18. You have such a cutie little girl!

Thanks for stopping by Emma's Lunch. I love this topic, and you are right, we should be more present.

  19. I try, I really do. But it is sometimes a struggle not to zone out, or tune out especially when little voices are calling your name 50 million times a day. This is great perspective though - these moments can't be relived and we only have one shot at today!

  20. It is very easy to get caught up in the world and forget about the now.

I always kept in mind the poem about, Cooking and cleaning can wait, for babies will only be babies for a short time.

  21. When I get home from work, I try very hard to be present. I have made it a rule to put my cell phone on the charger and refuse to pick it up. I only get a few precious hours with my daughter on a daily basis so the afternoons are "mommy and me" times. We cook, we do an art project, we dance or sing while we take care of chores and household tasks.

  22. Wow! You've got some great thoughts here! I'm so glad you found me on the blog hop. I've been working on "being more present" -- and being more mindful in the things I do. Thanks for following me. I've followed you back.
