A Good Reminder

Today I was reminded that a seemingly normal, predictable life isn’t so bad.

All too often we/I get wrapped up in the dull of life leaving us feeling somewhat listless. From time to time we turn the mundane of small inconveniences or annoyances into a big deal. Often times I believe this happens subconsciously just to create drama and excitement.
When I look at others in crisis, I’m immediately grateful for the state of my family. I also know that someday all too soon it will be my turn to step into unpleasantville.

For all of us in a state of routine, predictability (if that’s possible with kiddos) and wanting a little more excitement, I say be careful what you wish for. After seeing others in crisis, normal and a little boring look mighty fine.

My reminder of what's important
Do you agree?

  2. I absolutely agree! I tried to remind myself of this when I do start to get bored. I hate drama, but love excitement. Huge difference! I hope you don't step into unpleasantville any time soon. Have a good Saturday!! : )

  6. oh my goodness that picture of your sleeping princess is to die for. I'm so chicken about waking Daisy up by taking a picture of her while she sleeps but, the pictures are so cute!! I agree 100%. Enjoy what we got whatever it is and try not to get swept away wishing for something else thus missing what we got;0. I could not agree more!!

  7. yes yes yes!! I totally agree, I will take my "normal" day over anything! Some days it is nice to SLOW down and soak up what is happening around me in everyday life vs wishing something else were going on! Hope your having a good weekend!! xoxo

  8. I've never understood the (subconscious) desire for that kind of excitement. I am perfectly happy to live in the slightly boring, mundane life. Give me days full of errands, the glass of wine after Georgia's in bed, and reading for 10 seconds before I fall asleep ANYTIME over drama.

  9. I used to have a friend who was ultra dramatic and thrived on conflict. She wasn't happy unless something was brewing. Notice I said "used to".

I'm happiest at home with my family relaxing and doing nothing! Last night we went in our hot tub after dinner and then came in and had a family PJ party. We had chips and hummus and drinks and all watched Suze Orman together. That's my kind of night. I also love that at ages 6 and 9 both my kids know what liquid investments are and play along on the approved/denied segment. They typically get the right answers, too!

  13. What a beautiful picture. I couldn't agree more TV. After watching the turn of events for Japan, I'm quite happy to be waking up to my "plain old" life. My heart goes out to anyone right now in crisis.

  14. What a sweet reminder! I struggled with this a long time and now I agree - what's most important is family and close friendships. Each day we have with them is a gift, oh let me never forget that.

  15. well said. Good things can happen within the space of boring and mundane. If we let them, that is :)

  18. Agreed! I decided long ago to cut the drama out of my life, but of course there is always the drama/stress that you can't control...like floods in the bathroom and illnesses. I'm with you, gotta appreciate the slow and mundane!
