Doing Some Good Lately?

If you haven't any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble. ~Bob Hope

Do you like to do special deeds for loved ones or strangers?  I like to do good, but don’t always get around to it.

I do try to let shoppers with fewer items go ahead of me at the grocery store.  Sometimes I bring in my neighbors trash – even though they don’t know it’s me.  While other times I mow the lawn so my husband doesn’t have to do it.  I used to volunteer but no longer have the freedom of time.

Of course I do these things to help others but at the same time I do it for me.  It just feels good doing some good.

What good deed(s) have you done for someone lately?  How did it make you feel?

**Mama Hen made me more aware of this recently, thanks Mama!**

  1. Spreading kindness is such a wonderful thing and makes me feel so refreshed! I love taking a meal to a neighbor when a child is born or a family member is recovering from something. I enjoy watching a friend's child for free to give them a date night and taking family pictures as a gift since man cannot afford a photographer. This post is going to give me the nudge to be on the lookout for more opportunities to do good deeds so thank you!!

  2. I love doing little things to make people smile. Pre-kids, I would buy my girlfriends their favorite coffee from the local cafe, or fill up their gas tank and wash their car if they let me borrow it for whatever reason. Now, I'm having fun finding free good deeds!

Following back from the Monday hop :).

  3. Generosity definitely makes me feel great! Like you, there is a selfish component to why I enjoy doing it. It's a high you can't get from any kind of drug, food or whatever...at least for me. For the past Christmases, I've made it a family tradition to gather donations from the extended family and bring the goods over to our local food pantry. To answer your question though as to what the most 'recent' deed was...well, I think it would be opening/holding the door for a Mom who had a stroller and another child in her arms. Little things count, don't they? :-)

  5. Lovin' the new layout. I'm a giver and a doer and I'm always trying to find a way to share a smile. Last weekend we had a few of Cam's friends over for a late night playdate...gave their mom's & Dad's an evening out without having to pay a babysitter. It was a lot of fun and they really appreciated it.

The best deeds are those that are not done for the glory of it.

I hope you had a great weekend, TV!

  7. This weekend donated books to the library and took someone's keys into the restaurant they were parked in front of. The keys were attached to a wallet and on their trunk. :/ It made me feel like I was giving back to my community...which is never a bad thing!

  10. Mama Hen and how she was able to pay it forward was truly amazing! You are right :)

Ah I try to volunteer, I love to donate, fundraise for certain health associations so that help people with heart disease. I could definintely do MORE, that's for sure and after this post of yours, I think I might try and find ways to be more ACTIVE in helping our community! Thanks :)

  11. Love this post, what a great reminder! Last week my girlfriend and I were talking and she wanted to redo her daughter's art room. I'm thrilled to help her think through a simple design and excited to put up the shelves next week! I hadn't done this much artsy stuff in so long and you're right, it just feels good. Thanks for this timely post :)

  12. Following you back :) I love your blog and I'm excited to read more. I love to surprise my parents with cheesecake as often as I can, and I enjoying taking cupcakes to my neighbors.

I donate once a month from my Tutu Fairy shop to help different charities raise money for the cause. It makes me feel great to help others when and if I can.

  13. Great post. I volunteered at a food bank before my newest daughter was born. I loved how it made me feel. Now that she's 4 months I should probably get back to it. Your daughter is beautiful by the way!!

  14. The world would be a whole lot better place if everyone did random acts of kindness for others.

I used to try to do one kind thing for a stranger every day. Somehow, I lost track of that goal. I think I'll start that again. Thanks for making me think about it, TV!

  16. I donated to SIDS, St. Jude's, African Missionaries, Juvenile Diabeties, and gave all of my kids clothes and my clothes and a bunch of toys to a local kids home, and all this week. I have been feeling the need to be giving lately...It feels good to do something that I hope someone is benefitting from.

  17. That's a tough one. I will tell you why - it's the intention behind it. I find I sometimes (and I HATE to admit it) do good to be recognized, or congratulated.. just some sort of validation.

Other times.. I really do things out of the goodness of my heart. Snow white I am not.. but I do strive to do more. It's hard when you work in non-profit - you see the uglier side of "doing good." Soo many are in it for recognition.. though, you do find a few! :-)

  18. Yes, doing good is a win/win! It helps others, but it does make me feel good too! I do wish I had more time these days to consciously go out and help--when Little Lewie is older, I plan to get him involved in some community service type projects, so he can appreciate what it means to help others and feel grateful for what we have. I try to be kind and let cars go in front of me or help coworkers with projects at work. At home, I make hubby special lunches, and tonight I'm treating my mom to dinner. I guess we do what we can with the resources we have available to us... Have a great week TV!

  21. We give to a lot of charities in different ways (ie. money, household donations, time etc.) but I have been really wanting to put myself out there more lately and help! I think with recent tragedies overseas, as well as in my own life, it makes me feel lucky for what I have and I want to give back and make someone else better for it. I'm also addicted to the good feeling I get from it, being an approval junkie and all...: )

  23. Each year, we donate to Autism Speaks, SIDS Resources, the Epilepsy Foundation, and Race for the Cure. I like surprising the special ladies in my life with an unexpected morning mocha or sweet treats from my good friend Elle. It truly is the little things that make a difference!!

  24. I haven't physically volunteered in a while but I do donate money and items. If a friend is participating in some type of project, I definitely support them. I think it will be fun to teach Lily about volunteering as she gets older.
