Originality

I find being original is quite difficult these days.

Even though we are all part of a more global world we seem to be just as homogeneous as ever.  I think it’s simply human nature.   We massage someone else’s ideas and turn them into our own ‘personalized’ version.  Not intentionally but through influence.  In essence, we are all building off each other’s ideas.  Very few of us have truly authentic ideas.

What do you think, do you agree it’s hard to be original today?

  1. I agree it is hard...and like you said it becomes your own version. I think most people don't recognize where that they actually got their ideas from something they already saw or heard.

  2. I agree every idea is a spin-off from someone or something else...perhaps that's where our own personalized version is original :)

  3. Well, unless you are Lady Gaga and come out of eggs at big events, I would say it is difficult to be "original". However, no matter what and how things appear, we are all very "unique" because our perspective and what we have lived will never be the same as any other. Have a fantastic weekend my friend!

  4. Agreed. If one more person says "think outside the box" to me at work, I may scream. Even a phrase about being original is over used!

  6. I once wrote something about my sadness on feeling 'ordinary' and one of my nieces pointed out to me that it's what we bring into situations that make us unique AND special. The idea or the situation may just be another version of an existing fact or truth, but our personal take on it will always be unique...It's our way of 'massaging' it (as you so creatively put it...See, you're original TV!), that makes it uniquely ours and authentic :-)

  7. Yes and no. Yes, it can be difficult at times, but at other times it's not. We all have our own little quirks and nuances (spelling?), so I think we'll always be original, it's just trying to include that in your blog or every day life that can get lost in the bigger picture.
