What If You're The Toxic Friend?

According to a recent MSN article, 8 out of 10 people endure poisonous pals.  Sure most of us have someone who is less than positive and a downright energy suck but some of us still endure them.

My question is, who are these toxic buddies?  I wonder if toxic friends even know they are toxic.  Do they sit around and point fingers at everyone else being toxic?

What do you think; could you actually be ‘the toxic friend’?

  1. I saw that article! And I wonder from time to time but I'm pretty sure I'm much less than toxic. I don't take advantage, I don't drain emotionally I don't push and I don't pull.

    Maybe I'm passive?

  2. Interesting. I am sure we all exhibit toxic qualities from time to time. Right now, I have been warning my friends that I need to lay low.. since I don't want them to get too emotionally invested in my troubles. :-)

  3. Not to toot my own horn, but I don't consider myself a toxic friend. I used to have a lot of toxic friends, but I have been doing a lot of friend weeding lately. And all my friends seem to be more positive, the kinds that if I get on the phone with them and I'm having a bad day, I have a smile on my face.

  4. Hmmm that is a thinker. I think I agree with what Nicole said. Perhaps at the wrong moment from one time or another we all might exhibit toxic qualities but, I don't see myself as a constantly toxic person. I do know people that seem to be toxic a lot though. They seem to be people who are not really ever at peace themselves so they thrive off of bringing other people into their mess and their doubt. Personally I just love nice people...wish that was all this world was full of! lol

  5. Right? It takes a lot of consciousness to know oneself and the wish to.

  6. I'd like to THINK I'm not. But, if I may, we are all human. So, MSN PEOPLE, I think we all are at one point or another.

  7. Yes! Absolutely! And that is one of the reasons why I "hibernate"! I don't want to be the toxic friend so I just withdraw when I need to...

    What's your answer, TV?

  8. oh I know these friends. I sure hope I am NOT one. the older I've become, I find myself getting rid of those toxic relationships in my life. Life here is precious and if we waste our time with this, it only ends badly. After ridding myself of my toxic friend, life sure seems better! sad but true.

  9. Of course not! Everyone else has a problem, not me! :) Just kidding. I'm sure there are times when I am the toxic one - feeling like venting, etc. But, this certainly is not how I am all the time. I like to laugh too much.
