Cleaning the Clutter

Recently, we had a play date at a friend’s new home.  It is a beautiful home.  She always warned me that she didn’t like clutter but after seeing her home I had to laugh as there wasn’t an item of clutter to be found.  Nada. Zip. Zilch.

Fifteen minutes later I entered my house.  Upon entrance I saw my many piles of clutter.  My kind of clutter is just procrastination.  Papers and things I either don’t want to deal with or I am not really sure where to stash them.  (Note: I can't stand the other kind of clutter, you know too many knick knacks and trinkets).  Anyway I started to clear some of my usual clutter hangouts and while I dislike the process, the outcome is so worth it.  Clean and neat.  Then I came full circle with a laugh and wondered how I allowed those piles to even start growing - and how long it will take me to 'grow my piles' again.

How about you; do you clutter your space?

  1. I have been trying to get rid of clutter...stuff I have been putting off or not put back in its place or stuff that needs to be thrown away!

  2. I do! I clutter my space constantly. I'm like you...I may clean them up, but they grow back again! haha! My husband has an internship placement starting this summer...meaning? we'll be moving. And in my effort to pack as FEW boxes as possible...I'm on this intense "purging-fest"! Hoping that when we get to the new place owning less stuff, it'll help me be more disciplined! Here's to wishful thinking...hehe.

  4. I am an anti-clutter person. And when I go through phases of feeling like things are starting to get cluttered, I go on a major get rid of stuff spree, which will be happening this week/weekend. I'm feel bogged down, even though if you saw my house, you'd say "what clutter?" I'm looking forward to tackling our clutter stat! Happy Tuesday, TV!

  5. We are definitely clutter prone! Not with knick knacks but with the other stuff (papers, toys, things just not put back in the cabinet). It drives me crazy but I always drag my feet clearing it out. Usually it's back very quickly so it's a never ending battle here!

  6. I was extremely exhausted yesterday precisely because of this. The thing is, it wasn't mainly my clutter but my hubby's. But we switched offices so I had to clear his to make space for my stuff. However, now I am loving my new space with my all white (Ikea) shelves and tables and am just wishing to keep this space as neat as it is now. Wishful thinking eh? ;-)

  9. You just read my mind about clutter! I went to my friends house and she has no clutter either. However, she does have a lot of help in her house and does not really need to worry about the daily things we all do with cleaning and stuff. I find that time can be a factor in clutter building up. Because we have so many things to do, we put stuff in a corner until we can deal with it. The big factor for me is also that I do not really have storage space. So the finding a space for stuff becomes an issue. I have my Christmas stuff in my downstairs closet where toys and things should go. Anyway, I really want to declutter. I hope you are well my friend! Have a great day!

  10. Clutter is my worst enemy. When I was "stay-at-home," I tried to tackle it everyday, but now I'm lucky if I tackle it once a month. Plus, now that my little boy is on the move, I find that my house turns into a tornado zone in less than an hour. I guess what I'm saying is that I have not felt any satisfaction from cleaning away my clutter because my house always seems messy no matter what. So, while I do focus on having a clean home, a non-cluttered home has definitely slipped on my priority list... :(
