A Bored Mind

Do you think a bored mind creates chaos?  I do.

I think about the housewife that goes off the deep end because she’s bored with her life.  Or the town gossip, her life is boring (or pathetic) so she focuses on creating tall tales of others just for fun. Think about kids who are bored, they often get into the most trouble.

Being bored is of course a state of mind.  When we sit in a car for hours traveling we can either enjoy the company, the music, the scenery or we're simply bored to our core.

A bored mind can be fairly sinister. When we have too much time to think, sometimes we create unrest that was never there.  We create chaos to entertain ourselves.

Do you think a bored mind creates chaos?

  1. I've never thought about being bored in this way before...but it's a different twist. I think it's definitely a good reminder to keep yourself in check and think that instead of feeling "bored" we should feel grateful that we're able to relax or not do something in that moment. Does that perspective make sense?

  2. Well you know what they say about idle hands...that it causes trouble. Maybe people create chaos just to entertain themselves?

  3. Hmmm, the "unrest that was never there". I like that. Reminds me of Gracie Allen's (1940's)presidential campaign slogan, "the next president you ever had". There are minds that keep boredom at bay. I believe you own one.

  4. This is a good post! I think that today's world creates so much hustle and bustle for children, that they do not know how to simply be "quiet" in their minds. This can create boredom. Because they are constantly on the go and entertained in some way with computers, and electronics often times I think the joy of simply "being" has been lost. This does create a restless mind - boredom. I think that society has created a set up for a lot more bored people! That to me is sad. There is so much to see and do and take in. I hope you are well! I have not started that book bt really want to this week. Have a great night!

  5. This post comes to me in such a timely manner. Do you know what it felt like? It felt like you were physically here shaking my shoulders, my entire body, to snap me out of whatever 'chaos' I'm in. So yeah, I am inclined to agree. I was especially struck by that last line, "we create chaos to entertain ourselves". This is hard to admit but I think I engage in this. Thanks for the reminder TV!

  6. Oh my goodness - YES! I would love to shout it - Yes! yes! We have to learn how to be joyful and imaginative. It's the only way to conquer our drama/boredom. :-)

  7. oh YES! absolutely. The town gossips around here are the lamest of them all...bored with life and the lack of love and fulfillment so they feel the need to get in other business that doesn't concern them AT ALL...YES I AGREE!!!!!

  8. I agree. People who are consistently bored do have too much time on their hands. Maybe they just spend their time watching TV, but maybe they're creating mischief for others... You never know...
